‘The Last Fiction’ praised to redefine Iran animated movies has revealed official trailer before premiere at the Annecy animation festival in France.

The official trailer serves as a prelude to the animation’s upcoming screening at one of the most prestigious animation events across the world, aka Annecy International Animated Film Festival, to be held on June 11.

This comes as Cartoon Brew, an internationally renowned animation website, has described the work as the one pursuing to “redefine Iranian feature animation”.

A number of well-known Iranian actors have lent their voices to the animated piece.

Akbar Zanjanpour, Hamed Behdad, Parviz Parastoui, Majid Mozaffari, and Ashkan Khatibi are among the animation voice actors.

Directed by Ashkan Rahgozar, the animated film is the story of an evil figure in Iranian mythology, Zahhak. It is a free adaptation of a story from Iran’s classic literature.

The 120-minute animated movie deals with the narrative of Zahhak and covers the events from the end of Jamshid’s reign till Afaridoun taking over. The figures were two influential rulers in epic masterpiece Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) by Iranian classic poet Ferdowsi.

The film won recognition and was presented as one of the best ongoing projects at the Annecy fest in France.

It was also invited to the Marché du Film (lit. Film Market), which is the business counterpart of the Cannes Film Festival and one of the largest film markets in the world.

Born in 1986 in Tehran, director Rahgozar is the founder and chief executive of Hoorakhsh Studios.

He holds a BA in Graphic Design and MA in Illustration, and is one of the youngest writers, directors, producers of animated movies in Iran.
